Ellis County has another reason to keep an eye on the Dallas Mavericks this season — 2019 Red Oak ISD graduate Marcus Sasser is headed to Dallas after being acquired from the Detroit Pistons.

The move to bring Sasser back to DFW came as part of a blockbuster six-team trade involving the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards, Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder. The deal also featured Khris Middleton returning to Washington, John Collins heading to Miami, and Santi Aldama joining the Mavericks alongside Sasser in one of the NBA offseason’s biggest transactions.

From Red Oak to Houston to the NBA — and now back home. The former University of Houston standout and 25th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft will continue his career just a few short miles from where it all began.

It’s also a fitting full-circle moment for the Sasser family. Marcus was coached at Red Oak by his uncle, former Dallas Mavericks forward Jason Sasser. Now, he’ll have the opportunity to wear the same uniform his uncle once did.

Red Oak ISD is excited to announce Whittney Trevino as the new principal of Eastridge Elementary School.

She has more than 10 years of experience in education, including service as a teacher, testing coordinator, instructional coach, and, most recently, assistant principal in Ferris ISD. She has a proven track record of improving instructional leadership, school climate, and student academic development.
