I didnt really "get it". The whole clicker training and positive reinforcement thing. I knew positive reinforcement was good and I used it. But I had seen the food thing go very wrong enough times to scare me off from it.

Then I realized that the traditional methods go wrong too. Pressure and release methods make scared horses, just like reward and no reward can make pushy horses. The only reason they go wrong is because people use the method wrong.

Once I got that sorted out, I knew how I could use clicker training and more positive reinforcement in every aspect of horsemanship.

I had only half of the equation figured out. When I figured out the other half, progress was easy, fast, and fun!

I have been using clicker training to successfully solve trailer loading issues, bridling issues, mounting block issues, fear/anxiety issues, lazy horse issues, standing in the cross tie issues, farrier hoof handling issues, and feeding routine issues.

In the saddle, I bring clicker training to every session. It's fixing Piaffe/Passage issues, single tempis, pirouettes, spooky horse issues, impulsion and engagement issues, and understanding collection issues.

Basically, it makes solving any problem for the horse and rider twice as fast and twice as nice.
