This morning, personnel from the Shasta County Fire Department Boat Program assisted the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Boating Safety Unit with a water rescue on Lake Shasta near Hirz Bay.
An operator of an amphibious ultralight aircraft crashed into the lake shortly after takeoff. Wearing a personal flotation device, the pilot survived with minor injuries.
Shasta County Fire boat personnel assisted by towing the aircraft to shore until it can be safely removed from the water by the owner.
This incident highlights the importance of strong partnerships on the water and being prepared with proper safety equipment

Last night, resources from Millville Volunteer Fire Department and CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit/Shasta County Fire responded to a vegetation fire in the community of Millville. Due to the quick actions of firefighters, the fire was quickly contained and extinguished, preventing further spread.
Unfortunately, the fire was caused by an escaped debris burn pile.
Debris burning remains one of the leading causes of wildfires in California. If you are conducting dooryard burning under a permit, you must follow all conditions listed on your burn permit, including:
• Verify it is a permissive burn day before burning.
• Burn only natural vegetation grown on the property.
• Keep burn piles no larger than 4 feet by 4 feet.
• Clear at least 10 feet around the burn pile down to bare soil.
• Have a water supply and shovel readily available.
• An adult must attend the fire at all times until it is completely out.
• Do not burn during windy or unsafe weather conditions.
• Completely extinguish the fire by drowning, stirring, and feeling for heat before leaving the area.
Remember: A burn permit does not guarantee safe burning conditions. Always check local burn day status and follow all permit requirements. Violations of burn permit terms are a violation of state law and you can be cited.
One escaped burn pile can threaten lives, property, and natural resources. Please burn responsibly and help keep our communities safe.

CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit – Warming temperatures and winds are quickly drying out the abundant annual grass crop. The increasing fire danger posed by the high volume of dead grass as well as hotter and drier conditions in the region, are prompting CAL FIRE to suspend all burn permits for outdoor residential burning within the State Responsibility Area of Shasta and Eastern Trinity Counties. This suspension takes effect at: 8:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2026, and bans all residential outdoor burning of landscape debris such as branches and leaves.
