My return to the 7th on stage 2 and 4th on stage 4… not bad.

Coming into the race I was gunning for the hilly stages 3 & 5, but less than 2 weeks before the start I got a nasty case of strep and was off the bike for almost a week. I knew I wouldn’t be at 100% for the race but it was something I was targeting for the start of my season so I came in just wanting to do the best I could. I definitely felt the illness on those hard stages and was disappointed to say the least finishing far out the back on terrain I’d usually thrive in. However in the sprints I was able to weasel my way into the top ten by staying in good position both times, not bad for a small guy. It was amazing to be back at my favourite race in North America and I wanna give a huge thank you to for giving me the opportunity to guest ride with them here. Also want to shout out my second family the Adorador’s for hosting me again, next time we go to PF Chang’s! Now off to Europe to join my boys

Season has started.

Earlier than usual and back in North America for the first time in a few years. Happy to get the racing legs moving at and in February, now back to Canada in March before the first big goal of the year in April. One top ten in the bag already let’s try and find some more.

Took me over five years to win a bike race as an elite and around the same amount of time to graduate university. To do both in front of my friends and family was really special after how much support they have given me over the years to get me to this point. Life can be so uncertain at times so to have this moment in the middle of the season gives motivation and confidence for the next few months of racing to come.

Another weekend another UCI race, this time Omloop der Kempen at home in the Netherlands. 17th again for the second weekend in a row, happy but not satisfied. Went early for the breakaway and got some tv time, but ultimately the race stayed together until the sprint. I was up there and ready to jump on lotto when a huge crash happened to the left of me and a rider fell right on my back wheel. With every ounce of bike handling I have, and a little bit of luck, I kept it up (see last 2 pics of me struggling). I managed to get back up to speed again and try and contest the sprint, but the legs gave out at the last. Top ten was in reach and the form was there, just have to find the right ex*****on in the last few races before summer break.
