As we go into our first rehearsal of 2026 today, we want to fondly remember Donna McNeese-Smith, a valuable member of our 2nd violin section, who passed away in December following a brief illness.

Please read & appreciate this kind tribute on Donna’s legacy by our conductor James Benanti:

“Donna has been part of our second violin section for several years, and her late husband Bill was the unofficial "greeter" for our concerts. She was a very humble person, however Donna, or Dr. McNeese-Smith, had an incredible career filled with accomplishment. Donna was an Emerita Professor at the UCLA Joe C. Wen School of Nursing, a Fulbright Scholar who spent time researching in India, and a highly regarded author in the field of Nursing with over 20 published articles and research papers. In addition to all of that, she was a lovely and sweet human being, and she will be very missed. There is comfort in the fact that she is together again with Bill.“

Our hearts are with Donna’s family at this time as we play in her memory.
