The brand began in 1932 as a German camera model within the prestigious Zeiss Ikon line, and later became a brand name. From the outset, Contax cameras were hailed among the world's finest, boasting top-notch Zeiss interchangeable lenses.
One unique characteristic of the Contax design was that it allowed a higher maximum shutter speed. The top speed was 1⁄1000s, then increased to 1⁄1250s in the Contax II. Kyocera acquired Yashica/Contax in 1983 and continued to manufacture products under the aforementioned brands.
Unfortunately, 2005 marked the end of Contax production. Today, the brand rests in the hands of Carl Zeiss AG, a silent testament to an era of photographic excellence. 📷✨
