Mayumi Tanaka, the voice behind Luffy in One Piece, recently made a lighthearted comment while accepting an award in March 2026. She joked that she may not live as long as fellow voice acting legend Masako Nozawa.

Tanaka said she hopes to stay healthy and continue working for another ten years or so. Her comment was a way of showing admiration for Nozawa, who remains active in the industry well into her late 80s.

Over the years, Tanaka has also joked about wanting to see One Piece reach its ending. Her words reflect both her dedication to the series and her deep respect for one of anime’s most celebrated voice actresses.
