One of the parts of this work I genuinely love is talking to collectors about the art.
 
Not the selling part — the conversation part.
 
What draws someone to a piece. What they want to live with and why. The moment when a collector says something that stops you mid-sentence because they’ve named something in the work you hadn’t quite found words for yourself.
 
Those conversations are some of the best ones I have.
 
What took me longer to learn was how to create the conditions for that conversation to happen — how to be present, how to talk about the work in a way that invites people in rather than keeping them at arm’s length.
 
The business of art doesn’t have to feel like a different person than the one who makes it.

We lost a good one on Wednesday. My crazy friend, Joe for 36 years that introduced me to my ex-husband, Joe, of 28 years, in college. He was larger than life both in stature and voice, the type of guy that could walk into a room and know just about everyone.

There are so many memories but one I will treasure forever was a quiet moment during a party at he and Karen’s lake house in Michigan, he asked me how I was doing, he never asked anyone that, and I said I was feeling like I wasn’t beautiful anymore - he told me emphatically that I would always be beautiful. I will cherish that moment forever!

Please raise a glass for my friend, Joe, my bestie Karen and their boys Ryan and AJ. And don’t forget to hold your people close in this short and precious life. Xo

I come from a long line of incredibly fierce, strong, honest and kind women. This is my Auntie Sal and my youngest daughter Em at the wedding of my cousin a few years ago. My aunt is a writer and was a scientist when I was growing up. She taught me about all forms of art and creativity, and the importance of them in sustaining our society. I hope I have passed those same things along to both my girls. Happy Friday Friends. xo
