Sweet Decay

This is the voice that made me fall in love. Autumn has been singing with her whole heart for most of her life and I feel lucky to be able to witness her on piano singing covers like this on a daily basis.

Sweet Decay would not be the same without her.

Some time in 2009 I (Cj) was at a coffee shop in oakhurst California and this band called Poor Man’s Poison came through and played a show. It was amazing. The sound was so unique and I was hooked immediately to this folk, country, bluegrass, jazz, rock vibe.

They are a huge inspiration to our sound and the music we write. A little dark a little, rock, but still folk. This is one of my favorite songs by them and Autumn and I finally kinda figured out how to play it. We are massive fans. Thanks for inspiring us to create the art that we do.

When I was homeless I only really cared about needing shelter. It felt like living on the run because almost every time I stopped to rest I was forced to leave. I was pushed to the outskirts of society and often times found rest in the thick brush in the countryside. I would find these thickets and chop branches away to make little rooms that were hidden from the world.

What I did find that I did not expect was that the people who did help me were also homeless or had been homeless. Almost no one who hadn’t experienced it was willing to lend a hand or donate money/food/clothes.

I wasn’t a ju**ie, although I smoked a lot of w**d and experimented with other drugs from time to time. I wasn’t an alcoholic but I was definitely on the road to becoming one. I was just a little dirty, and had no address and somehow these seemed to mean that I was undeserving of love or kindness from the world around me.

This song is for the homeless, for the poor, for the ones who have had to crawl out of the dark places and find a solid footing again. This song is for the hurting, the lonely and the misfits. This song is for anyone experiencing exile or otherness by a society that seems to have abandoned them.

2025 was a year of growth and personal challenges. The last year has left us with experience gained and wisdom to use in the years coming. Thank you everyone for following us as we continue to grow and learn.

Our first song of 2026 will be released on Friday January 9th. “Problem Child” is personal to me (Cj). I spent a couple years homeless and traveling via hitchhiking. There’s a thing about being homeless that makes the more fortunate view the unhoused as less than human or through a lens that says we deserve to suffer because of our poor choices.

I was a Problem Child in this way. I watched people walk by me that I knew. They chose to ignore me. I saw people eating their fast food as they drove by me, my growling gut, and my sign that said please help.

This song is a reminder. We are ALL people. We are all stories and beings deserving of love. We are more than the mistakes we made. We have futures. Those futures look better if we remember to help one another.
