I don't know how much wood a woodchuck could chuck if he/she could chuck wood but I do know how many books a writer (c'est moi) can work on during the same period of time...I wonder how many my writer friends do. I know it's more than one. For me it is currently six books...Some will get more and faster attention than others. All require some research, but one in particular, requires a lot. So what are these books and when can a reader expect to see them? I am super excited about the project tentatively entitled JOANNE about Joanne de Longchamps, Nevada's foremost poet and collage artist of the 1960s and 1970s. There is CARSON CITY'S COLORFUL HISTORY, which be a fun look at the capital city's history, VIRGINIA CITY'S AMAZING SOMEWHAT QUIRKY HISTORY w/RECIPES, a history book with recipes. DEATH FOR THE BRIDE and DEATH RIDES THE RAILS which are 7 and 8 in my Virginia City Mystery series of whodunits. And there is the untitled book of NEVADA BROTHELS HISTORY and ANECDOTES (With Kristen Hamlet) So there's what keeps me up at night. Photo of Joanne de Longchamps special collections UNR...

Spirited Capitol City Part 1
September 27 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Carson City has a spooky history with spiritualists and ghostly activity. One medium named Mrs. Meyer was particularly well known for the séances she conducted at the Elsworth House, just a block east of the old train depot. During the hot August nights of 1881, these spiritual gatherings left residents both intrigued and unsettled by the ghostly phenomena reported.

Today, Carson City’s rich tapestry of spiritual legends, from the bride of Ferris Mansion to the haunting tales of the Governor’s Mansion and the Mint, continues to captivate those interested in the supernatural.

Join us for a fascinating deep dive into the history of Nevada séances, including how they were conducted and the ghost stories that followed. And if you’re feeling extra spooky, join us next month for a séance with paranormal historian Janice Oberding.
