How toxic is your home?

As 80 to 90% of our time is spent indoors, most of it at home, our exposure to toxic chemicals is at it's highest. According to the EPA, airborne chemical levels in homes at any given time can be as much as seventy times higher than outside.

Because our homes have become so much more energy efficient, when toxic household chemicals release vapors in the air, they really have nowhere to go. This exposure to toxic indoor air can negatively effect our health. A fifteen year study revealed that women who worked from home had a 54% higher death rate caused by cancer than women who worked on the outside. The direct cause was indeed due to the high exposure to the hazardous chemicals found in ordinary household products. As much as 30% of all cancers stem from exposure to toxic chemicals.

How often do you wake up with a feeling of nausea or you're experiencing aches and pains? Perhaps a headache that was possibly brought on by your fabric softener? Is your home's toxic air poisoning you? The answer is very likely YES!

Fortunately there is a very simple solution, you can stop these symptoms and make your home a healthy one by switching to safer, more natural products.

Cardiovascular Disease

Heart disease is the number one adult killer in North America. A fatty diet and a sedentary lifestyle are two of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease. Smoking and high levels of LDL (bad cholesterol), cause hardening of the arteries, which can lead to high blood pressure. New research has shown that heart attacks, are mainly caused by low levels of B vitamins known as folic acid. Maintaining a well balanced diet, regular exercise and proper dietary supplements are essential in maintaining a healthy heart.

A good place to start would be to avoid animal fats and fried foods, reduce total fat to less than 20% of your total diet. Incorporate fresh fruits and veggies in your daily diet and begin a gradual exercise program. A half hour of exercise per day can help reduce the chance of a heart attack or stroke in people with hardening of the arteries in their legs or arms.

A daily dose of fiber is recommended for good health (twenty to thirty five grams). Take supplements that target and help inhibit LDL cholesterol oxidation, regulate blood platelet activity and maintain healthy blood pressure.
Practicing good oral hygiene is key as periodontal disease has been linked to heart disease and stroke.
