Fair warning: Friends, if you visit you may be practicing Pilates. Lean into it like does with this stretch for the posterior chain and IT band.🦵

When you find a practice you love it shows❤️. My client Camie shows up for each session with a smile on her face and ready to roll EVERY SINGLE TIME. She goes to school early in the morning then follows that with several hours of work, a long ride home, and STILL she shows up ready for Pilates. Camie continues to not only blow my mind with her progress, but she inspires me to fight through the “I don’t feel like moving my body today” and move. Thank you, Camie for being such an incredible you.

Challenging your range is so so tempting, I get it, but whenever we push past our known range and into our challenge zone we have to be methodically aware of every nuance in movement. I cannot stress this enough: take it SLOW. Slow is strong. An example of a subtle change that can occur (more often not so subtle) is core disengagement. This can lead to hips shifting, back arching, shoulders rising...the list goes on. Note the difference between the two pics. Neither pic is 100% perfect form (but, it’s my version of today’s close enough😂..I just knew I was paying close attention to my movements in pic one), but you can see in the second that while my range is higher, I’ve lost my core recruitment: back is arching, hips have opened and off the same plane.
Take your time while challenging yourself during your workout. Your body will thank you for it.

Saturday morning happy energy in the FlowFit studio brought out April’s beautiful hanging plank with moderate extension.🧡 A strong and flexible spine will literally carry you through life. Take a few minutes each night before bedtime and stretch your body (including your spine!) on your floor...your body will thank you for it!

Weekends are perfect for Pilates (of course!) and while you’re at it, why not incorporate movements that challenge your balance and fire your glutes and core? Patty is practicing one of my favorites, 90/90 kneeling hands in straps, in the progressed/advanced level using just one 💛spring. She’s been doing Pilates for years so she made it look easy (it’s anything but)! Start on both knees sitting on heels, one ❤️ spring and move to two knees on, eventually moving to one 💙 spring. Finally, split that position to 90/90 and rewind back to a ❤️ working to lighter springs from there. Progress takes time and is so worth executing slowly with proper form. An aligned spine is a happy spine.☺️

✨Why Pilates Is Perfect For Men✨
Men are continuing to look for new and effective ways of expanding on their fitness regimen. Everyone, including men, needs flexibility, lengthening, and strengthening and more often than not men are working on just the strengthening part of those three components. Here are a few reasons, guys, on why Pilates just makes sense for men and women equally:
Pilates Improves Flexibility.
Finding the length in your back body that was otherwise tight before is life changing. If you find yourself sitting most of the day, Pilates will bring extension back into your hips.✨💪
Pilates Works ALL The Muscles.
The equipment used in Pilates as well as just the exercises executed on the mat themselves develop muscles we all need in our daily functional movements. And men, if you’re looking for a challenge Pilates is IT. This is going to hit all the muscles that you didn’t hit while lifting and you’ll feel and see the results in your daily movements.
Core Strenthening = 🔥Abs/Butt/Obliques🔥
Pilates goes beyond the quest for six pack abs and targets the entire core, or powerhouse, of the body. So not only will you tone, but your back will feel better and posture will improve.
Finding Your Breath Is Everything.
Understanding and practicing rhythmic and cleansing breath will have a ripple effect throughout your life. Breathing detoxifies, calms, and energizes your body. You’ll find yourself holding your breath less and being present in body and mind more often.
These, of course, aren’t the only reasons to try Pilates. If you’re curious or would like to take advantage of a complimentary 30 minute mat session or 30 minute in studio (based on studio availability) visit our site for contact details.
