Neck pain after cycling? You’re not alone. 🚴‍♂️
Long rides with the neck held in extension can overload the cervical spine and lead to chronic stiffness, headaches, and pain over time. Proper bike fit, posture, and targeted mobility can make a huge difference. If cycling is starting to bother your neck, it may be time for a professional posture and movement assessment—schedule an appointment and ride pain-free again. https://straitposture.com

HOW FAR SHOULD YOUR NECK GO?
The neck is the most flexible part of your spine. If you have full range of motion, you should be able to do the following: 1.Touch your chin nearly to your chest. This is called flexion, and it should allow movement of about 60°.
2. Look almost straight up to the sky. This movement is extension, and it should allow you to tilt your head back about 70°.
3. Rotate your head left or right until it is almost even with either shoulder.
4. Tilt your head sideways to the left or right, halfway to either shoulder. (This is a lateral bend, and it will let your head move about 45°.

Range of motion decreases somewhat with age, but see Dr. Strait to check on new or significant restrictions. Moving your neck through its complete range of motion daily can help prevent neck pain and help maintain a healthy range of motion. https://straitposture.com/

The Neck: Where Bone, Muscle and Nerve Converge. The neck has an intricate scaffolding of bones that provide support for your head and protection for your spinal column. Because of these intricate parts, it is prone to injury and pain. Bones may compress delicate nerves, joints can deteriorate, and discs can bulge - All causing discomfort and pain. Understanding the anatomy of the neck will help you understand your pain and how to prevent it altogether.
