Reston Museum

🎆🇺🇸When Robert E. Simon Jr. founded Reston, he built it on a foundation of seven guiding principles, not least of which is the importance of dignity of the individual. The same principals shared by our founding fathers life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are very much mirrored in the original design of our planned community. Today, we celebrate our Independence Day with gratitude to all who paved the way for our freedom and way of life.❤️

Check out this cool piece of needlepoint from the Bicentennial. It was worked by Restonian Theresa Martin as she observed Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ meetings as a member of the League of Women Voters. Nothing says Reston like art and civic engagement coming together.

Happy Juneteenth! One of Robert Simon's key goals for his town was to create an open community where neighbors were not divided by race, knowing that he would stand his ground if corporate investors refused to back an integrated town. This passion has since been taken up by groups like Reston Black Focus and by thousands of Restonians every day for over six decades. There's still work to be done, but today we celebrate the successes and joys on our path to becoming a more perfect union.
