Week 1 at AFA Summer Camp | Who Am I? 🌿

Our first week was filled with discovery, reflection, and meaningful moments as campers explored what makes each of them unique and how their strengths can be used to serve others.

Through nature walks, shelter building, gardening, creative projects, journaling, prayer, and play, campers slowed down to observe Allah’s creation, formed new friendships, and learned that every person has a special role to play in their community.

Some of our favorite camper reflections this week:

💬 “Today was the best day of my life.”
💬 “Together, me and my friends can help the earth.”
💬 “Allah amazed me by all the plants I saw.”

Alhamdulillah for a beautiful first week. We can’t wait to continue the journey next week as we explore our new theme, “Knowing Allah Through His Creation.” 🌱

As they prepare to take their next steps into high school, our 8th graders recently participated in a unique challenge during one of their final Islamic Studies classes with Ustadh Ismail.

Working in teams, students were given just 20 minutes to design and build a structure, putting their communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to the test. Afterward, each group presented their creation, reflecting on the obstacles they encountered, how they adapted, and what they would have done differently with more time.

The activity sparked thoughtful conversations about the transition to high school. Students discussed the importance of setting goals, working effectively with others, evaluating risks, and staying flexible when faced with new challenges. Most importantly, they reflected on the value of the journey itself—embracing challenges, learning from setbacks, and growing through the process.

As we prepare to say goodbye to this special class, we are reminded of how much they have grown during their time at AFA. We will miss them dearly and make dua that Allah ﷻ grants them success, growth, and steadfastness in all that lies ahead. 💜💚

🪨 Legacy Stones with 4th Grade

Fourth graders created “Legacy Stones” out of clay as part of a reflective activity during their Guidance session with Ms. Muzna, our school counselor. This activity was focused on character and personal growth. Students explored the hadith that the best of people are those with the best character, using it as a guide for thoughtful discussion and self-reflection.

Each student considered the qualities that currently describe their character, the traits they want to strengthen, and the kind of person they hope to be as they move on to 5th grade. They then shaped their clay stones as a symbol of these intentions, taking time to reflect on both who they are and who they are becoming.

It was a thoughtful and creative moment as students looked ahead with intention and sincerity, carrying with them the reminder that character is something we continue to build every day.
