Apple announced a significant overhaul of Siri at WWDC 2026, aiming to make the voice assistant more helpful and action-oriented by leveraging user personal data. A key element of this revamp is a partnership with Google Gemini to enhance Siri's AI capabilities, marking a shift to a standalone Siri app that offers chatbot-style interactions and remembers past conversations, similar to ChatGPT.

This update allows Siri to access contextual information from users' Apple devices to improve responses, such as composing emails or texts. Apple’s move comes in response to competition from other advanced voice assistants that have surpassed Siri in functionality. Despite previous setbacks, including delays and legal challenges due to unmet promises, Apple seeks to reinvigorate Siri's relevance by providing a more personalized and integrated experience.

New features also include the ability for Siri to answer questions about content on the user’s screen, akin to Google Lens. However, concerns about privacy remain, as the integration of personal data raises questions about user security. Apple's commitment to preserving privacy, including measures like obscuring IP addresses and on-device processing, is highlighted in response to these concerns.
As the AI landscape rapidly evolves, Apple's success with this new iteration of Siri will depend on user reception and the effectiveness of its updates.

Worldwide IT spending is projected to hit $6.15 trillion in 2026, a 10.8% increase from 2025, according to Gartner. AI infrastructure spending continues to grow rapidly, driven by hyperscale cloud providers, with server spending expected to rise 36.9% year-over-year and total data center spending to surpass $650 billion.

Software spending growth has been slightly revised down to 14.7%, with generative AI model spending projected to grow by 80.8%. In contrast, device spending is expected to reach $836 billion, but growth will slow to 6.1% due to rising memory prices and market constraints affecting device replacements.

Gartner’s IT spending forecast is based on extensive research, helping clients identify market opportunities and challenges. Additionally, Gartner provides insights on AI strategies to C-Level executives and will host conferences discussing cloud and infrastructure trends throughout the year.
