⁉️Do you have a filter???

A septic tank filter works by acting as the last line of defense before wastewater leaves the septic tank and enters the drain field.

💥Here's how it works:

Wastewater enters the septic tank, where heavy solids settle to the bottom (sludge) and grease and scum float to the top.

The clearer liquid in the middle of the tank flows toward the outlet.

Before that liquid leaves the tank, it passes through the effluent filter.

The filter traps small suspended solids, hair, wipes, and other debris that could otherwise clog the drain field.

Only filtered effluent leaves the tank and flows to the leaching system.
Why cleaning the filter is important

As the filter collects debris, it gradually restricts the flow of wastewater. If it isn't cleaned:

Drains in the home may become slow.
Toilets may not flush properly.
The septic tank can back up into the house.
The filter can become completely plugged, as shown in the picture.

⁉️How often should it be cleaned?

The filter should be inspected and cleaned every time the septic tank is pumped. Depending on lifestyle, household size and water usage, some filters may need cleaning between pumpings if slow drains or backup occurs.

The clean filter on the right will allow wastewater to flow freely, while the clogged filter on the left is blocking much of that flow. Regular maintenance helps protect the drain field, which is the most expensive part of a septic system to replace.
