I recently learned that some OB/GYNs do a calculation to determine if pregnant women can have a VBAC, a vaginal delivery after C-section.

I was surprised to hear that they have an equation they follow instead of having a conversation.

Expecting parents deserve to be informed.

They deserve to understand that having a natural birth is safe.

And that having a C-section is not risk-free.

C-sections are major abdominal surgery.

Mothers deserve to make their own decisions once they understand the risks.

Doctors should be informing them about the short term and long-term effects of medications for mothers and their children.

And that it’s safe to have a vaginal birth after a C-section.

I can’t believe there is an equation to determine if women can have a vaginal birth.

And that doctors aren’t having honest conversations.

Health history is very important.

A holistic approach is important.

So is allowing women to receive full consent and autonomy.

What do you think about the VBAC calculator?

Did you have a VBAC?

Do you think a lot of doctors are still hesitant to do VBACs or to support vaginal births?
