On June 19, 1865, freedom finally reached Galveston, TX—marking the true end of slavery in the United States. That moment, and the spirit behind it, still resonates today.

We take this time to honor the resilience of Black communities and to celebrate the voices, journeys, and experiences of everyone in our AD community. Every person matters. Every story matters.

We congratulate “all the individuals who have developed and supported captioning technology, whether open or closed, for film,” as they were recently honored at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ annual Scientific and Technical Awards.
