When you have a clogged/bad injection or carburetor (for older cars) you would experience hard starting or no starting at all. The injection system is basically responsible for what quantity of fuel goes into your engine combustion chambers. They have an atomising nozzle that distributes the petrol or diesel evenly, for optimum combustion and efficiency. Whereas, the carburetor ensures appropriate mixture of air and fuel goes into the engine.

Symptoms of a bad injection or carburetor:
Engine runs very rough
One, multiple or all the cylinders are not firing.
The engine does not produce sufficient power to pull the car.
Engine hardly starts or cranks and never starts.
Bad emissions.
Bad Fuel Consumption.

Repairs: Consult a well trained car mechanic for diagnosis and repairs.

Please stay safe and drive safe.

Another thing that could prevent your car from coming on is a bad ignition switch. The ignition switch is one of the most important electronic components commonly found on many cars and trucks. It is usually located on the steering column, just behind the ignition lock cylinder. The two work together to turn on and start the vehicle. The ignition switch has several positions that power on different systems as the key is turned. Most ignition switches will activate the electrical accessories in the first position, power on the fuel and ignition systems on the second position, and crank the engine on the third. Since the ignition switch is arguably the most used part of a car it is only common for it to go bad easily.

Symptoms of a bad ignition switch:

1. Car stalls while driving: A bad ignition switch can cause your car engine to suddenly go off while the engine is switched on.

2.The engine does not start: An engine that refuses to start can be another sign of a bad ignition switch. The ignition switch sends power to the the starter motor, engine controls, and ignition controls. These systems may not receive the power they need to start up if the ignition switch isn’t working properly. An engine not starting could be one of them.

3. Car starts and then suddenly stalls: Another symptom of an issue with the vehicle’s ignition switch is a car that starts and then suddenly stalls. If the ignition switch fails at the “on” position, the position meant to power on the fuel and ignition systems, it may result in the vehicle starting, and then immediately stalling.

4. Issues turning or removing the key: If the ignition key gets stuck when turning on the car or removing the key, it may be a sign of a worn out ignition switch. The key isn’t connecting inside the switch properly. Additionally, a switch going bad may cause the engine to continue running even after you’ve removed the key.

How to get it fixed:
Get a well trained car electrician to properly diagnose and get it resolved.

As always, drive safely and take care of your health.

Another reason why your car may not start could be due to a bad fuel pump. A fuel pump as the name implies basically supplies the car engine sufficient fuel/gas to ensure the smooth running of the car. When this pump fails to function properly, it could fail to supply the engine petrol and once this happens, your car is likely not going to start.

How do you know if your fuel pump is bad?
1. Pay attention to some kind of noise from the location of your fuel pump. If you hear a whining noise around the fuel tank area, then your fuel pump could be bad.

2. If prior to the hard start you ever noticed your car stalling when at high temperature or loss power when the car is under stress like climbing a small hill.

If you suspect your fuel pump isn’t working well, contact a service professional.
