This Thursday: Protect & Detect with Ocean First!

Colorado friends — we’re just days away from our hands on aquatic invasive species training and community social, and we can’t wait to see you there.

Our waterways are under pressure, and informed stewards make all the difference. On Thursday, you’ll learn how to identify, report, and prevent the spread of quagga mussels, zebra mussels, and other high risk invaders threatening Colorado’s lakes and reservoirs.

Then we’ll unwind together with a relaxed social to celebrate the start of the season and the people who make this work possible.

📅 This Thursday, May 14
🤝 Hosted with: Ocean First
📍 Location: 637 S Broadway, Boulder, Colorado
⏰ Time: 6:30PM-9:30PM
🎉 Community social to follow

Whether you’re a diver, paddler, angler, or simply someone who loves Colorado’s waters, your voice and vigilance matter.

Let’s protect the places we love — together.

The Rockies Are Drying — and Our Water Future Depends on What We Do Now.

Colorado and the greater Rocky Mountain region are facing intensifying drought conditions, driven by below‑average precipitation, shrinking snowpack, and rising temperatures. Winter snowpack — the backbone of our rivers, reservoirs, and drinking water — is increasingly unreliable, setting the tone for water shortages across the West.

At Deepwater Conservation Initiative, we’re working to protect the waters that sustain our communities, wildlife, and ecosystems — from alpine headwaters to the rivers that flow through our towns.

Why This Matters

• Millions of Colorado residents live in drought‑affected areas, with precipitation levels well below normal this year.
• The Colorado River, fed by Rocky Mountain snowpack, supports 40 million people across the West — and its flow is declining.
• Drought fuels wildfire risk, aquatic die‑offs, invasive species spread, and stressed forests, reshaping ecosystems across the Rockies.

How We Protect Our Water

Deepwater Conservation Initiative is expanding conservation and scientific diving programs in Colorado to help communities:

• Monitor freshwater health and water quality
• Restore vulnerable aquatic habitats
• Train volunteers in invasive species prevention
• Build resilience in the face of long‑term drought

Healthy waterways start with informed, engaged communities — and that includes you.

What You Can Do Today

💧 Use water wisely: Small daily changes add up.

🚫 Prevent invasive species: Clean, drain, and dry all gear and watercraft.
