Today I had to diagnose a persistent check engine light with a P0340 Code(Camshaft Position Sensor A - Intermittent Fault), causing the car to go into limp mode. I checked the whole cam position sensor system and I found that the ground circuit had excessive resistance. When I isolated the ground circuit and checked resistance, it was within spec. Once I plugged it back into the ECM, the resistance went back up, indicating a faulty ECM that is not supplying a good ground to the camshaft position sensor.
I'm now locating an ECM for a good price and will install and program it to get the vehicle running right.
