This summit brings together peers, leaders, and changemakers from across New York and North America who are committed to advancing peer support through inclusion, equity, and lived experience. If youโ€™re doing this work or care about where itโ€™s headed, this is a space youโ€™ll want to be in.

In our time together, weโ€™re going to get very real about what shows up at work.

Not just behavior, but whatโ€™s underneath it.

Weโ€™ll look at how trauma responses like fight, flight, freeze, and fawn can show up in peer staff, and more importantly, how supervisors can respond in ways that create safety, trust, and connection instead of unintentionally escalating stress.

Folks will walk away with practical strategies they can actually use to support peer staff with lived experience, strengthen collaboration, and maintain accountability without losing compassion ๐Ÿค

Because when peer staff feel supported, they stay.

When they stay, relationships deepen, especially for their clients.

And when that happens, outcomes improve for everyone ๐ŸŒฑ

Yesterday, I had the privilege of facilitating the ๐๐ž๐ฐ ๐˜๐จ๐ซ๐ค ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐ƒ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐„๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฒ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐’๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐ฌ (๐„๐ˆ๐’๐) Staff Development Day in Albany โ€” under the truly inspiring leadership of Deputy Commissioner Valerie Figueroa. Nearly 300 staff came together, and the energy was incredible. ๐Ÿ’›

Our purpose was simple but powerful:
๐’๐ญ๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ง ๐œ๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ-๐›๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฎ ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ง๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐ฌ๐ฒ๐œ๐ก๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐ฌ๐š๐Ÿ๐ž๐ญ๐ฒ so every role functions like a bridge โ€” helping move ideas, support, and purpose across the division.

Together, we focused on:
๐Ÿ”น Reducing silos and seeing the big-picture mission
๐Ÿ”น Building ๐ฉ๐ž๐ž๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ & ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฅ๐Ÿ-๐œ๐š๐ซ๐ž practices that last
๐Ÿ”น Pausing and responding with compassion โ€” with clients and colleagues
๐Ÿ”น Making it energizing, meaningfulโ€ฆ and definitely not just another day at work!

And we did it.

We created a day filled with ๐’‚๐’–๐’•๐’‰๐’†๐’๐’•๐’Š๐’„ ๐’„๐’๐’๐’๐’†๐’„๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’, ๐’๐’†๐’‚๐’“๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ, ๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐’๐’‚๐’–๐’ˆ๐’‰๐’•๐’†๐’“ โ€” including staff who had never met before. We found practical ways to strengthen the bridges between bureaus and support one another through the emotional labor and moral distress present in this important work.

Iโ€™ll be facilitating a ๐ฏ๐ข๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐š๐ฅ ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ข๐ง ๐ƒ๐ž๐œ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ for those who couldnโ€™t join in person, so everyone has the opportunity to participate.
