Frederick W. Metzger Obituary Jul 7, 2026 - Farrell-Ryan Funeral & Cremation Services 07/09/2026

Frederick W. Metzger

Frederick W. Metzger

Passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, at the age of 96. He was born on November 4, 1929.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Lucille Metzger; his siblings, Richard, Gerard, Paul, and Carolyn; and his son, Fred Jr.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife of 78 years, Lorraine Metzger; his children, Sharon Harrington, Judith (Tom) Lipovsky, Linda Hackett, Ann (Jim-deceased) Bunting, Kenneth Metzger, and Janine Layne; his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer, Evan, Brie, Marissa, Andrew, Chad, Nathan, Sarah, Lyndsey, Jaime, Kailey, Austin, Reide, Chase, Aubrey, Jordan, and Trevor, as well as 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Fred lived a full and active life, filled with family, friendships, the stories he told and the pastimes he loved. He was an avid golfer, a proud member of Brooklea Country Club in Rochester and The Club at Pelican Bay, in Naples, FL., and was one of the original owners of Craig Hill Country Club. He was so proud of the fact that he shot his age at both 81 and 88. Fred had the mind of an engineer without the degree, however he went on to found Rochester Form Machine in the early 60’s and Tube Tech, Inc. in the 1980’s. During that time, he held numerous patents in the automotive industry. Fred was a gifted athlete and loved to watch all sports. He lettered in baseball, basketball and football in high school. From a very young age, Fred enjoyed playing cards, including pinochle, poker, gin, blackjack and especially euchre. He also enchanted everyone, especially his grandchildren, with his magic card tricks. He created the most magical, memorable Christmases for anyone who visited. His fully decorated 20 foot tall Christmas trees were legendary. The many trips to Disney with family were a highlight of his life. He took great pride in his Rochester, NY home on Long Pond Road where he designed a beautiful, award-winning waterfall feature and immensely enjoyed sharing this property with everyone. He was a devout parishioner of Our Mother of Sorrows, and St. John the Evangelist in Greece, and St. John’s and St. William in Naples, FL.

We will forever be grateful to his “Angels” who provided loving, exceptional care at home over the past 2 years.

Above all, he cherished his family and was beyond proud of each one of us.

Services will be held privately for the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Fred’s memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or a charity of your choice.
