New York Figure Study Guild

We are sad to announce that our fellow artist and friend Jan Davidson passed away last week. Jan was the Treasury Secretary of the NYFSG and contributed enormously to the success of the Guild. Jan covered responsibilities in many aspects of our activities, and her proposals, insight, and practical solutions to issues made her an invaluable colleague and friend of the Guild team leadership.

Jane grace Taylor: A Moment of Zen

Jane grace Taylor holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Syracuse University. She taught graphics, photography and studio art in public schools, was award-winning Art publication advisor and Department Chair, and IT at SUNY IT in Utica NY. She has been treasurer of the Central New York Watercolor Society, President of the Rome Art Association, member of the Sumi-e Society of America, Rehoboth Art League, Rochester Art Club, and NY Figure Study Guild.

This talk describes my exploration of the arts that has led me down numerous paths. In college, I studied ballet and modern dance, became more athletic and studied martial arts. Along this path, I became intensely interested in Eastern Art and read of ancient religions that gave birth to them. This led me to an exploration of China, the home of the graceful calligraphic art of Sumi’e or thrown ink. I began to love the look of beautiful brush strokes. I discovered that Asian teachers were doing workshops in this ancient style of brush painting which is simultaneously ancient and modern in its beauty. I have studied with teachers around the country for twenty years perfecting my skills. Now I teach workshops in Asian style watercolors.

This event is free for members, pizza, wine, and refreshments will be served. To support the event, we suggest a $5 non-member donation.
