May this Memorial Day be a whisper to each of us, a whisper that builds to meaningful communication of appreciation, of gratitude that emanates from our soul — a reminder that freedom was paid for with the lives of family members, friends, neighbors and the many more we never knew - not words of politicians and statesmen.
Perhaps as we look up at the billowing flags, not just this day but everyday, we think of their hearts beating once again so that we may thank them.

When we see a flag wrapped a bit around a pole, might we think of the families changed forever and envision wrapping an arm around them.

Today, may we honor the brave not with celebration,
but with reflection, reverence, and a heart full of thanks.
Their sacrifice is the foundation of our freedom. It is not a happy day, it’s a serious day.
Be well, take care, be humble.

It is Memorial Day. Today isn’t just another day off.

It’s a day to reflect—quietly, deeply—on the lives lost in service to something greater than themselves. Memorial Day is not about celebration, but remembrance. It’s about taking a moment to honor the courage, the sacrifice, and the empty chairs left behind.

Let’s not rush past the meaning. Let’s sit with it.

I took this photo in March of 2016 in the coty hall at Rome, NY of “the Fallen” in service to our country and freedoms. This is but one small city from across our nation. Let’s reflect and appreciate all those who served and made the greatest sacrifices.
