🌡️ DANGEROUS HEAT IS HEADED TO MACOMB COUNTY 🐾
Over the next several days, we're expecting dangerously high temperatures with heat index values that could reach 105–110°F. This kind of heat can become deadly for pets in just minutes.
We know our community loves their animals, so we're asking everyone to take a few extra precautions.
‼️ DO NOT WALK YOUR DOGS DURING THIS HEAT WAVE.
They will be okay without a walk for a few days. The pavement is dangerously hot, and the air temperature alone can quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heatstroke. Dogs cannot cool themselves the way people can. Keep them inside in the air conditioning as much as possible.
NEVER leave a pet in a parked vehicle.
Not even for a minute. Not with the windows cracked. Not even with the A/C running and their favorite music playing. Your dog doesn't need to go to the grocery store, the bank, or pick up coffee...they'd much rather stay home, stretch out on the cool floor, and nap until this heat wave passes, trust us!
Senior pets, puppies, overweight pets, and pets with medical conditions are at an even greater risk of heatstroke.
If you care for outdoor or community cats, please make sure they have access to fresh water in shaded areas.
Don't forget livestock and other outdoor animals. They also need shade, ventilation, and a constant supply of clean water.
If You Find a Pet Suffering in the Heat:
✅ Move them to a shaded, cool area if it's safe to do so.
✅ Offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water if they're alert.
✅ Use a fan if available and apply cool water to the belly, paw pads, and body.
🚫 Do not use ice or ice-cold water, wrap them in cold wet towels, or assume they'll recover on their own. Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency.
🚨 See a dog left in a hot vehicle? Call your local Police Department immediately.
Please have the vehicle's make, model, color, license plate number, and location in the parking lot ready when you call. Those details help officers respond as quickly as possible.
If you see an animal that appears to be suffering due to the heat or isn't receiving adequate care, don't look the other way. Animals have no voice....they rely on all of us to speak up for them.
❤️ Thank you, Macomb County, for always looking out for your neighbors and their pets. Together, we can help every animal stay safe through this dangerous heat wave.
