Meet Chica, she’s approximately 7 to 8 years old and as you can see a Mexican Hairless. She’s pretty stressed out as you can imagine, she just arrived from a rescue partner this past Wednesday, her previous owner having passed away😔 Have to say though, she’s already warming up to staff members and did very well at her vet visit, considering the circumstances. Below you’ll find Key Characteristics of the breed and a YouTube montage with more pics. Www.pawsandclaws.org

The Mexican hairless dog, or Xoloitzcuintli (pronounced "show-low-eats-queent-lee"), is an ancient breed from Mexico, known for being mostly hairless but also having a coated variety. These intelligent, loyal, and alert dogs come in three sizes (toy, miniature, standard) and are valued as calm companions and vigilant watchdogs, often forming strong bonds with their families.
Key Characteristics
Appearance: Most are hairless with smooth skin, but can have tufts of hair on the head, feet, and tail; a coated variety with short, flat fur also exists. They come in various colors like black, gray, brown, and red.
Temperament: Calm, intelligent, and loyal, they are naturally wary of strangers and can be good guard dogs because they don't bark excessively. They are sensitive and respond best to positive training.
Sizes: Toy (up to 14 inches), Miniature (14-18 inches), and Standard (18-23 inches).
History: One of the oldest domesticated breeds, revered by Aztecs as guardians for the afterlife.
Care and Needs
Skin Care: The hairless variety needs protection from the sun and cold, often requiring sweaters or coats in cooler weather.
Socialization: Early and consistent socialization is crucial to prevent them from becoming overly aggressive or fearful with strangers and other dogs.
Training: They are quick learners but need patient, fun, and consistent training.

We currently have a lot of puppies available on our website of different varieties and now we have 9 more to add. They are the Hannah Montana puppy litter and we’re born in February of this year. They are a mixed breed of some sort, mother and father’s identity is unknown , they came to us from a rescue organization down south. They were actually flown up here and have been here for at least three weeks already and have been thoroughly vetted and spayed and neutered. What a happy bunch, they are like little party dogs, just watch the montage. Never seen a group that just so filled with joy, little lovers jumping all over the place, having a ball trying to figure things out and just wanting some attention and love. Just giving everybody a heads up with the montage and will be posting pictures and putting them up on the website later tonight or tomorrow. Oh I forgot and their names are Hannah Montana of course, along with Rico, Jackson, Robbie Ray, Miley, Jake, Oliver, Ruthy and Lilly😍
