According to new guidelines from the NGA, color variance in glazing products—especially those using pigmented coatings or interlayers—can now be measured and standardized.

The report outlines how tools like spectrophotometers (both handheld and benchtop) can be used to assess both reflected and transmitted color differences. It also discusses how raw material changes over time or across batches can cause noticeable variation in final installations.

The industry is aligning around a Delta ECMC value range of 0 to 5 as an acceptable tolerance level.

This approach provides clarity for architects, contractors, and fabricators aiming for visual consistency on everything from samples to final products.
