YES, APRIL IS NATIONAL HOME INSPECTION MONTH, and it's also the start of a new, very busy season of buying, selling and renovating homes. Furthermore, given the current quarantine restriction, an experienced home inspector service, such as Eagle Home Inspection, will become even more critical and valuable. We will use all precautions necessary to make sure all of us remain safe during these unfortunate times by removing shoes outside, using gloves inside and wearing a mask.

What causes ice dams?
The simple answer: heat. Heat builds up in an attic and melts snow on the roof. The snowmelt/slush slides to the edge of the cold overhang, where it re-freezes and creates a dam along the roof's edge. When more snowmelt occurs above the ice dam, water builds up and can leak into the structure of the home. Asphalt shingles are not designed to be buried in water---they will leak.
