ANDROID USERS SINCE 2017 MAY QUALIFY FOR SHARE OF $135M GOOGLE SETTLEMENT

If you’ve been carrying an Android phone since 2017, there may be a check with your name on it — though don’t plan your vacation around it just yet.

A $135 million class action settlement has been reached against Google after a lawsuit alleged the tech giant caused Android devices to transmit user data to its servers without permission — and on the user’s own cellular data dime. Google has denied any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement nonetheless.

A parallel lawsuit limited to California residents previously yielded a $350 million settlement. This current case covers the rest of the country.
Do You Qualify?

Settlement administrators say you qualify if you meet all of the following:
• You are a U.S. resident
• You used an Android mobile device with a cellular data plan from any mobile carrier
• That use occurred at any point since November 12, 2017
• You were not part of the California-only settlement

An estimated 100 million Americans may be eligible

How to File
Some qualifying users have already begun receiving notification emails — check your spam folder. You’ll need the notice ID and confirmation code from that email to complete a payment election form at the official settlement website:

Administrators warn that failing to select a preferred payment method puts your payment at risk.

Key Deadlines
• Opt-out deadline: May 29
• Final approval hearing: June 23

The settlement still requires court approval before any payments are issued.
