House lawmakers approved a bill by a 414-2 vote (who were the 2?) giving certain investment companies the ability to hold funds being requested for withdrawal if they suspect financial exploitation. This is meant to protect the elderly.

I applaud this effort, and for those of you with elderly parents, heed this advice: when I set up accounts for clients, I am able to include a "trusted contact" that I can reach out to if I feel there may be financial exploitation happening to that client. Have that discussion with your parents; see if they're open to adding you as the trusted contact.
