A little preparation can make a big difference in an emergency. Before you settle in, take a few minutes to go over these important safety tips with your family:
✅ Find 2 ways out of every bedroom in case of a fire.�✅ Test and locate the smoke alarms.�✅ Know where the fire extinguisher is kept.�✅ Choose a family meeting place outside the home, preferably in the front yard.�✅ Pack a flashlight for each person in case of a power outage.�✅ Identify the center-most room of the house to shelter in if severe weather strikes.�✅ Take a quick walk through the home so everyone knows the layout and exits.

✨What ties do you have to the community? I am a life-long resident of Floyd County, attended Model Elementary, Middle, and in 2015 graduated from Model High School.
✨What is your favorite thing about working for RFD? I appreciate the strong bond that I have with my crew, which is like a second family to me. I enjoy making a difference by helping people when we are needed and with the versatility of being able to ride the back as a firefighter or fill the role as a back-up Driver / Operator.

Today we honor and celebrate Nick Whorton as he retires from the Rome-Floyd Fire Department after a remarkable 16 years of service to our community. Nick has dedicated his time, talent, and heart to protecting others, mentoring firefighters, and strengthening the department in countless ways.
Thank you, Nick, for your leadership, your steady presence, and your unwavering commitment to keeping Rome and Floyd County safe. Your impact will be felt for years to come, and your legacy lives on in the many lives you’ve touched.
