Barry Funeral Home was established in 1974 by brothers John A. Barry, Jr. and Kevin T. Barry. Their first funeral home was located on North Washington Street.

Theresa M. Mazzacua

Theresa M. Mazzacua passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, in Williamsville, NY. She was a lifelong resident of Rome, where she spent most of her 89 years.

Theresa was born in Rome on July 4, 1936, to the late Karl and Theresa Stamm Schraml, and graduated from St. Aloysius Academy. On August 5, 1961, she was united in marriage to Anthony Mazzacua; a blessed union of over 56 years until his passing on October 3, 2017. She worked at Griffiss AFB before staying home to raise her family.

Theresa was a member of St. Paul's Church. She enjoyed swimming, sewing, biking, crocheting, and cooking pizzas with her grandchildren.

Theresa is survived by her daughters, Theresa "Tracy" (John) Gleason and Dr. Andrea (Dr. Robert) Setlik; her son, Douglas (Flor) Mazzacua; her son-in-law, James Culbertson; her beloved grandchildren, Alexander, Jonathan, and Henry Gleason, Michelle (Paul) Sisneros, David Culbertson, and Rachel, Rebecca, Edith, and William Setlik; her great grandchildren, Samuel and Alice Sisneros; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Culbertson, her sisters, Barbara Ruane and Frances Coluccio, and her brothers, Bernie, Karl, and Paul Schraml.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 17, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, June 16, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.

Sherman A. Stein Obituary June 5, 2026 - Barry Funeral Home 06/09/2026

Sherman A. Stein

Sherman "Rip" A. Stein, age 95, formerly of Marcy, was reunited with his beloved wife, Anne, on June 5, 2026, at the Masonic Care Community.

Sherman was born in Buffalo on July 4, 1930, to the late Hyman and Fannie Stein. In 1950, Sherman and Anne were united in marriage and shared almost 76 years of wedded bliss until her passing just 27 days ago on May 9, 2026. He worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company and later Smith Packing. After retiring, he ran The Sewing Machine Repair Center out of his garage.

Sherman was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rites, a Shriner, and belonged to St. Leo's-St. Ann's Church in Holland Patent. He drove many children from the Utica area to the Shriner's Hospital in Boston.

Sherman is survived by his daughters, Sharon Falvo of Marcy and Sandra Gibbs of Rome; his son, Richard (Tracy) Stein of Floyd; his grandchildren, Bernie (Christianne) Stooks of NC, Brendon Stooks (Eden Lefevre) of Utica, Shannon Gibbs of Rome, Tanya (Kevin) Hallenbake of Waterville, and Sherman Jacob Stein of Floyd; his great-grandchildren, Chandler, Lilly, Ian, Nic, Jon, Grace, Emma and William; and several nieces, nephews and cousins with special acknowledgement of Angela and Gary Givonetti who did so much for Anne and Sherman. He was predeceased by his sister, Roma Inserra and brothers, Philip Stein, Paul Stevens, and Marcus Stein.

Sherman's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caring staff at Masonic Care Community.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, June 11, from 4 to 6 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 12, at 12 PM at St. Leo and St. Ann's Church, Elm Street, Holland Patent. Interment will be in Carr Cemetery, Marcy.
