This is a field that wild hogs have torn up. They are digging up the planted clover, brassica and rye grass to eat tubulars a few inches+ in the ground. They will do this more times during the year creating holes that can easily be almost 2 feet deep. Try driving over those in a tractor or anything. Of course , they eat anything, including eggs, fawns, each other if one dies.
It's hard to see the destruction and depth from this picture. we've lost probably 2 acres of wildlife plots this year already...yes 2025!
Once again, I hate hogs, but I love bacon!
Wild hogs are still a problem for us. In 2023 we caught and killed 46 on our primary property. Traps are the best and most efficient method. Wild hogs do over $125 million in damages to farming processes in the State of Georgia, our base.
Spring is in the air along with pollen. However, this means fawns will start coming soon. May and June are primary months for does having fawns. A typical doe has twins, triplets are not unusual. If you see a fawn or encounter one, do not touch it or intervene. The mother does not stay with the fawn, she only visits to nurse it. If a fawn is near the road or in your driveway, call a Game Warden to help, if necessary, but most of all, do not bother the fawn.
