What if our greatest marriage problem isn't our marriage?
That may sound strange, but Jesus has been teaching me something that has changed the way I see not only marriage, but the Christian life itself.
For years, I thought many of our struggles centered around communication, unmet expectations, personality differences, or conflict.
Those things certainly matter.
But I've become convinced they often reveal a deeper issue.
A source issue.
When we look to our spouse to provide what only Jesus can provide, disappointment is inevitable.
But when Christ becomes our source, He begins changing us from the inside out.
That's where biblical marriage begins.
Not with trying harder.
Not with another checklist.
But with abiding in Jesus.

CHERISHED Part 1: Most Marriage Problems Aren't Marriage Problems When we expect our spouse to provide what only Jesus can, everyone loses.

Whatever Is Your Source Will Shape Your Life
The human heart was created to receive love, value, and identity from God Himself.
Because God is love and never changes, His love for us is constant—not based on our performance, our failures, or the opinions of others. The cross forever settled our worth in His eyes.
But if we don’t truly know Him… if we don’t trust His heart… if we don’t believe what the cross says about our value… we will inevitably search for worth somewhere else—in people, success, possessions, approval, religion, or achievement.
Whatever we depend on for our sense of value eventually gains influence over our lives.
The invitation of Jesus is not merely to improve our behavior—it is to become our Source.
When Christ is your source, your identity is secure, your heart finds rest, and you are no longer controlled by the shifting opinions and circumstances of this world.
“Because God is love and because He never changes, we have the opportunity to experience constant, positive internal input… We then become willingly controlled by whatever source we choose as our source of worth.”

What a Difference Jesus Makes in a Father’s Life
There is a huge difference between being a father who is trying…
and being a father who has surrendered.
I’ve lived both.
For most of my life as a dad, I was trying to do it right.
I believed in Jesus. I did the outward things.
I loved my daughters deeply and did my best to care for them.
But if I’m honest…
I was doing it largely apart from truly knowing Him.
I pointed my girls to Jesus,
but I didn’t yet understand how to live from Him.
I didn’t know how to teach them where their identity truly comes from.
I didn’t know how to show them that Jesus isn’t just part of life…
He is life.
It wasn’t until brokenness came that my eyes were opened.
I finally saw it clearly:
I cannot live the Christian life.
I need Jesus every second of every day.
And everything changed.
Not overnight perfection—
but a completely different source.
No longer striving… but abiding.
No longer trying harder… but depending deeper.
And as that changed in me,
it changed how I see fatherhood.
To every young father:
Don’t wait like I did.
Don’t settle for trying to be a good dad in your own strength.
Seek Jesus early.
Abide in Him daily.
Let Him be your life.
Because the greatest gift you can give your children
is not a perfect father…
…but a father who is fully dependent on a perfect Savior.
That’s where real love flows from.
That’s where identity is formed.
That’s where everything changes.
