Sonny Bono was inspired to write the song to capitalize on the popularity of the term "babe," as heard in Bob Dylan's 'It Ain't Me Babe'. 1975--Glen Campbell was at No.1 on the US Country singles chart with 'Rhinestone Cowboy'. DEPARTURES: 2000--Allen Woody former bass player with The Allman Brothers Band and co-founder of Gov't Mule was found dead in New York aged 44. 2009--American pop music singer, songwriter, and record producer Ellie Greenwich died of a heart attack age 68. With Phil Spector and Jeff Barry she wrote or co-wrote many hits including 'Da Doo Ron Ron', 'Be My Baby' 'Then He Kissed Me', 'Do Wah Diddy Diddy', 'Leader of the Pack, and 'River Deep – Mountain High' among others.

ARRIVALS: 1971--The Temptations scored their second US No.1 with 'Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)'. The track is considered one of the Temptations' signature songs, and is notable for recalling the sound of the group's 1960s recordings. 1980--In Memphis during their first US tour, Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders was involved in an altercation at a bar and was arrested for disorderly conduct. She kicked out the window of the police cruiser sent to take her away and spent the night in jail. 2022--Bonnie Raitt was the unexpected winner at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards when the 73-year-old American blues, folk and country singer scored a win for Song of the Year for her track 'Just Like That.' The critically acclaimed singer jumped ahead of pop titans Beyoncé, Adele and Taylor Swift to take home the prize honouring songwriting. DEPARTURES: 1990---American jazz singer Sarah Vaughan died of lung cancer. She had the 1954 US No.6 single 'Make Yourself Comfortable' and released over 50 albums. March 27, is "Sarah Lois Vaughan Day" in both San Francisco and Berkeley, California in honour of the singer.

ARRIVALS: 1958---Elvis Presley reported to the Memphis draft board. From there Elvis and twelve other recruits were taken by bus to Kennedy Veterans Memorial Hospital where the singer was assigned army serial number 53310761. 1977---Fleetwood Mac released 'Dreams' from their eleventh studio album Rumours which became their first and only US No.1 hit single. Stevie Nicks wrote the song in early 1976 at the Record Plant studio in Sausalito CA in around 10 minutes. 2016---Adele returned to No.1 on the UK album chart for the third time with her third studio album 25. Globally, 25 was the biggest-selling music release in 2015 and 2016.

DEPARTURES: 2009---The prosecutor in the Phil Spector murder retrial told the jury the former boy-genius producer was a 'demonic maniac' when he drinks and 'a very dangerous man' around women. Spector died in prison in 2021. 2024--With heavy, happy hearts and full bellies, the Antekes South wrapped up their premier 2-night-stand at Maria's Bonita Springs. The band(s) on the run are headed back North for the Make-A-Wish Gala at Harmony Hall April 5.....

ARRIVALS: 1963--The Four Tops signed to Motown Records with a $400 advance. Formally known as The Aims the group had signed to Chess Records in 1956, before changing their name to the Four Tops to avoid confusion with the Ames Brothers. 1990--Cher won the worst dressed female, and worst video for 'If I Could Turn Back Time', in The Rolling Stone Magazine's awards, Donny Osmond won the most unwelcome comeback award. 2021--American country music singer Morgan Wallen was at No.1 on the US album chart with his second studio album Dangerous: The Double Album. 2016

DEPARTURES: 2016---English record producer, arranger, composer, conductor, audio engineer and musician, Sir George Martin died aged 90. He worked as EMI records in-house record producer and became known as the so-called fifth Beatle. Martin produced all but one of The Beatles albums giving him 30 No.1 hit singles in the UK and 23 No.1 hits in the US. Martin received a Knighthood in 1996.
