Saturday is fast approaching and I cannot wait to see so many familiar and new faces.

It has been over 20 years since the last Ruffin Whistlestop Jubilee and our friends at Ruffin Volunteer Fire Department have worked really hard to put this together. 🚂

There will be plenty of food, activities, craft vendors and so much more. Along with Bessie Bingo. If you don’t know what that is then you’re in for a surprise. 😳

I will be one of the vendors with a booth dedicated to answer questions about CPR and First Aid Training. ⛑️

You can get some hands on experience with CPR manikins.

If you need a reason to take a CPR course, knowing the life saving skills that are taught can greatly change outcomes.

And you do not have to be a healthcare provider to be a lifesaver.

Today, we had a very special visitor at the station! Ms. Avery dropped by to surprise Officer Doyle.

Just last week, these two met under incredibly different circumstances. Officer Doyle was dispatched to a call where she immediately performed life-saving CPR on Ms. Avery. When the ambulance left for the hospital, she was in critical condition, and our team kept her in our thoughts.

Seeing her walk through our doors today, healthy, smiling, and able to share a hug with the officer who helped save her life, is the ultimate reminder of why we put on the uniform every day.

Thank you, Ms. Avery, for stopping by and bringing so much joy to the department. We are so incredibly glad you are doing well!

A football practice in Nestucca Valley, Oregon, turned into an emergency when a coach suddenly collapsed on the field.

The situation quickly became critical as he suffered cardiac arrest while speaking to players during practice.

Teammates reacted immediately. Players rushed to his side and began CPR, working to keep blood flowing while others called for help.

One player ran to retrieve an automated external defibrillator (AED) from the school gym.

As CPR continued, the device was brought to the scene and used according to their training.

The combined effort helped restore a heartbeat before paramedics arrived.

He was transported to the hospital, where he later underwent surgery and began recovering.

Weeks later, he returned to the field, crediting the players’ quick actions for saving his life.

Officials said the immediate use of CPR and an AED was critical, showing how preparation and fast response can make a life-saving difference.

This is the DEATH MASK of a young woman who drowned in the River Seine in the 1880s. As was customary in those days, her co**se was put on display in the Paris mortuary, in the hope that someone might recognize her and claim her body.

The pathologist on duty became entranced by the girl with the enigmatic half-smile, and so he commissioned a plaster cast made of her face. This mask was replicated many times over. She became known as "L'Inconnue de la Seine,” or “The Unknown Woman of the Seine.”

In 1955, a toymaker named Asmund Laerdal created what we now know as the CPR doll. Asmund wanted his mannequin to have a natural appearance. Remembering a mask on the wall of his grandparents' house many years earlier, he decided that the L'Inconnue de la Seine would become the face of Resusci Anne - the CPR doll.

So you see, this anonymous woman who drowned in the 19th century is responsible for saving many, many lives the world over. It is said that she has the most kissed face of all time.
