Frolicking is my therapy. 😊

Today my grandfather would be 95 years old. He was my father figure and unfortunately he died very young at 58.

He and my grandma raised me from when I was a baby until the time I was old enough to go to school. I have lovely memories of sleeping between the two of them in bed and feeling so safe and comforted.

I was 8 years old and will never forget watching him have a heart attack right before my eyes.

For years after his death I worked really hard to remember his voice, his smell, his touch, his laughter. For a while I was successful to keep him alive in my inner world but then as years went by these details escaped my mind.

My grandfather was a charming man beloved in our community. He loved to have a great time, to smile, to eat and drink well.

Our elders are so special and deserve to be treasured and honored.

Call your elders, hug them, listen to their stories.
Love on them while you can.

I’m turning 45 and to celebrate being on my way to becoming an elder, I’m inviting donations to , an oral history project honoring the life stories of first generation Spanish speaking elders in Sacramento.

We are making a bilingual documentary film and publishing a book with oral histories of the elders to preserve their life stories and honor their contributions to the economy and culture of Sacramento and California.

Donation link in bio.

Please help by donating and sharing. Sending you love and a reminder to reach out to your elders and love on them while you still can. šŸ’›
