Today we are remembering Dee Freeman. The beloved actress best known for her roles in The “Young and the Restless” and Tyler Perry’s “Sistas,” passed in April. Though she made the decision to quit smoking years prior, she felt pain that wasn't going away and went to the doctor two weeks later. They assumed it was nothing serious, and she went back to the doctor twice without any improvement. On her third trip, she was finally given an X-ray showing masses on her lungs. After multiple tests in the coming months, they confirmed that it was lung cancer. By the time they discovered, she was estimated to be in stage 3-4, and she noted all of the delays between her diagnosis and the treatment.
Smoking is STILL the number one cause of disease and death in the Black community, are there are many stories like Dee’s.

It's THROWBACK THURSDAY! At SOL Project, we’re doing things a little differently with our Black Legacy Series. Weekly, we'll be remembering a talented Black figure who lost their life to to***co related illness.
While honoring Black legacy, we ask, what do you want your legacy to be?
Smoking is STILL the number one cause of disease and death in the Black community. For years, we have been the target of to***co harms.
Nat King Cole, the legendary jazz pianist and singer, believed smoking helped strengthen his distinctive baritone voice. Instead, it contributed to his death from lung cancer at just 45 years old (1). Though his life was cut short, his timeless music continues to inspire generations.
