Mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum, and neither should healthcare.

During National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we're recognizing the importance of care that addresses the whole person.

The PACE model integrates primary care, behavioral health, social services, rehabilitation, nutrition, transportation, and caregiver support through one coordinated team. That means older adults don't have to navigate disconnected systems to receive the care they need.

Integrated care isn't just more efficient. It's more compassionate, more coordinated, and better equipped to support the complex needs of frail older adults.

Thank you to Governor Gavin Newsom, the California Legislature, and our budget leaders for their commitment to protecting access to PACE in the 2026–27 State Budget.

By including funding for additional state Level of Care nurses and rejecting the proposed additional PACE rate cut, California has reinforced its commitment to ensuring older adults with complex care needs can continue to receive comprehensive, community-based care through PACE.

These investments will help improve timely access to services, strengthen the long-term sustainability of PACE, and support more than 30,000 older Californians who rely on this proven model of care.

We are especially grateful to the many legislators and staff who listened to our members, engaged in thoughtful dialogue, and recognized the value that PACE brings to participants, families, and the broader healthcare system.
