Saint Joseph Jewish Community members met Tuesday night and elected a board for Beit Echad. The following were elected: Bob Ott, president; Anne DeLeon, vice president; Hans Peter, secretary; Eliana Baylor, treasurer; Steve Rosenak, director; Sandy Smail, director; Michele Richman, director.
An update was given on the remodeling work and new Ark design for the new space. Although there have been delays due to illness, work is progressing quickly and estimated finish dates place us in the new space before Passover.
We hope to see many of you who follow this page at events in there in the future.
As many of you know, our small Jewish community here is Saint Joseph is going through many changes. A new combined congregation, Beit Echad, is forming. A new location for worship is being prepared. Our beloved building at 17th and Felix is being sold. New beginnings.
So, what is NOT changing. Our commitment to working with members the greater Jewish community and Beit Echad in United worship, as we have done for the past decade, will continue. Honoring all Jewish viewpoints and inclusiveness, not just Reform viewpoints, will continue. We are committed to our historical position of being a "house of worship for all people." We will continue to outreach in educating the greater community about Judaism and pursuing acts of Tiket Olam, repairing the world. We are committed to worshipping as a united Jewish Community AND we are also committed to our historical Reform roots.
To those ends, Congregation Adath Joseph will continue. The legal entity and membership, known as Temple Adath Joseph, are neither disbanding nor ceasing to exist. We are not merging with Temple B'nai Sholem, but rather we are working with our sister congregation to support the formation of a new Jewish house of worship, Beit Echad. Temple Adath Joseph's membership as a founding member of the URJ will continue. Our commitment to Reform Judaism will continue. Our commitments to Adath Joseph cemetery and the various trusts placed in our care will continue. We will continue to remember those who have passed by publishing and reading our yahrzeit lists. We will continue to have our Temple phone, and be available to those seeking information. Our footprint in our greater community may look different. But, Temple Adath Joseph will remain a voice for Reform Judaism.
