Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) — a day dedicated to talking, thinking, and learning about digital access and inclusion for the more than one billion people worldwide living with disabilities.

Accessibility isn’t just about compliance — it’s about connection, opportunity, and equity. When websites, apps, documents, videos, and technology are designed to be accessible, everyone benefits.

At Minnesota STAR, we believe assistive technology and accessible design help create communities where all people can fully participate, communicate, learn, work, and thrive.

This GAAD, take a moment to:
✅ Add captions to videos
✅ Check color contrast and readability
✅ Use alt text for images
✅ Make documents screen-reader friendly
✅ Ask people with disabilities about their experiences

Small changes can make a big difference.

Assistive technology is about far more than basic needs; it is the foundation for participation, independence, safety, and dignity. It is the difference between simply surviving and truly thriving.

As we work toward a more inclusive future, consider these three questions:

PERSONAL TECH
- Have you explored the built-in accessibility features on your daily devices?

THE WORKPLACE
- Does your organization actively prioritize inclusive technology for all employees?

COMMUNITY
- Are your public events and digital spaces fully accessible to every participant?
