🌱 Welcome back to Updates! 🌱

🌞Last week was the first of Summer programming, we got a lot of new faces for our program, as well as returning faces. Our first day of work was with our returning crew, who got to help us plan for Market Garden Green Your Mind, and prep their Youth Led Beds, Yelbies! 🌟

✏️Our first Green Your Mind of the summer, and it was a big hit. A ton of our returning and new interns were able to learn about Green Your Mind, as well as our non-living relatives and land. 🌲

🪨Our lesson was taught by staff, interns who stay during the school year, and a guest speaker, Tara. Who helped us prepare for our growing season, as well as connect us with all living and non-living relatives! 🌳

💫After learning our interns got a taste of life in the gardens and how to use most of our tools! Newer, and newer generations here at Urban Roots exceed our expectations and learn really fast, so with a blast having them help us with our gardens. But nothing makes us have fun, all of our hard work such as weeding, prepping, harvesting are all the things interns do to learn and strengthen their skills! And right now, it's “Currant-ly” our best season! 🍒

🧅Also last Friday was our first ever Veggie of the Weekend, a collaboration with our Cook Fresh program where both our interns and cook fresh interns work together to find a vegetable for the week and prep it for a dish. This week's veggie was onions, and so our fresh team decided on a smash burger recipe and an onion lemonade! Real tasty and flavorful, but that's all for last week, stay in tune for more! 🍔

🐝BEE excited because here’s the update! 🌱

🌼Our interns and staff worked together to create and start on our Children’s Garden at our Rivoli site. Although it was a lot of planning and our interns worked hard in the heat, we all made it through and made many beautiful designs for our children’s garden. Such as weeding, bed prepping, seeding, planting transplant, and so much more. Our labor is helpful for our neighbors!⭐

🥒We also went to our First Covenant Church site to start planting cucumbers galore. We also posed with a bunch of leftover growing onions.🧅

✏️Last Tuesday, our interns planned and organized a wonderful amount of skits and activities for our Youth Orientation! Building communication and ideas with one another! 📝

🌦Meanwhile last Thursday, our interns visited our Rivoli site and planned their Youth Led Beds, or now newly known, Yelbies! However, we had to get a rain check because of the rain. 💧

💫Luckily, after some fun in the rain, we had a back up plan and went to our green house to do some deep cleaning. After some cleaning, our interns played a game of Mafia and enjoyed some time inside from the rain! 🧹

Join Urban Roots, Nature Yoga Club , and Trilingua Cinema at the Rivoli Bluff Farm and Restoration Site for yoga and a movie and enjoy food from Karibu's food truck in between! 🧘🏽🍿

6:30 pm: Opening

7-8 pm: Yoga. Space is limited, and registration is required (see 🔗 in comments). Yoga mats will be available or bring your own.

8-9 pm: Purchase food from Karibu's food truck, listen to live music, explore the sight, and get free popcorn from Trilingua Cinema. No registration needed.

9 pm: Movie (Fantastic Mr. Fox, 2009, PG). No registration needed. Bring your own chair, blanket, etc. Flashlights are helpful.
