🍦From 500 flavor ideas... down to the final five.

This morning, CFANS was delighted to host an ice cream tasting to determine the flavor that will commemorate the University of Minnesota's 175 anniversary.

Earlier this spring, we asked our community to create a flavor that resonate with our 175-year legacy. Nearly 500 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters submitted their thoughtful ideas.

After a lot of spreadsheet wrangling (and some expert input), the top five flavors were meticulously crafted by Mitchell Maher and his crew in the Pilot Plant on the St. Paul campus. Today, the finalists faced our expert panel of judges.

The 175th anniversary flavor will be announced — and available to purchase — in early August.

This summer, senior Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology major Katie is spending her days with Idaho Fish and Game as a Biological Aide in the Screen Monitoring Program🐟🎣

She’s monitoring salmonid populations and collecting habitat data to help researchers better understand how fish screens impact the survival of young salmon.

Katie says classes like Ichthyology, Wetlands, and GIS gave her the skills and confidence to take on this fieldwork while showing her why protecting fish habitats matters. We’re excited to see where this adventure takes her this summer!
