Happy Pride! This month and every month, ComoConnects stands with our LGBTQ+ community members and elders. Everyone has the right to love and be loved, to express their gender identity, and to receive the same support and services as anybody else. We are proud to be a member of a vibrant and diverse community here in Como Park and Falcon Heights and to be celebrating Pride month alongside all of you in our community.
Pride doesn't belong to any one person, place, or age group. The video below from SAGE highlights why it is important to celebrate Pride and to share our experiences across generations. This month is a great time to build connections across communities, and to celebrate all that has been accomplished towards the goal of equality. Happy Pride!

Happy Juneteenth. Today is a day rooted in history, established as a U.S. national holiday in 2021 and celebrated across the country. Join us in celebrating African American history, traditions, and futures.
Why do we celebrate today? The National Museum of African American History & Culture says it well:
"On June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln emancipated enslaved Africans in America, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas with news of freedom. More than 250,000 African Americans embraced freedom by executive decree in what became known as Juneteenth or Freedom Day. With the principles of self-determination, citizenship, and democracy magnifying their hopes and dreams, those Texans held fast to the promise of true liberty for all."

Big news - the intersection of Hoyt and Victoria Avenues now has a four-way stop! The new stop signs are looking shiny and new, but unfortunately that doesn't mean everyone sees them.
As drivers acclimate to the new intersection rules, please be extra aware. Neighbors who walk, bike, or drive near that intersection should use extra caution as everyone adapts to the change.

Did you know ComoConnects runs six blood pressure clinics a month?
Come by and meet our wonderful blood pressure nurse, JoAnn, at any of our three convenient locations. You don't need to sign up ahead of time, and there is no cost. All are welcome!
Additionally, this month our wonderful tech support volunteer Sue Majerus will be stopping in to each event to answer any questions about technology. Come and say hi!
*Please note there will be no blood pressure clinic at Arbor Pointe on Monday, July 6*

Thank you to everyone who came to our volunteer appreciation event last Tuesday! It was wonderful to hear everyone’s stories. Since ComoConnects volunteers typically don’t get to meet each other on the job, this was a great chance to connect folks and to celebrate all the time and effort put in by our community here in Como Park and Falcon Heights.
This year we gave out three awards to some of our impactful volunteers. Congratulations to Sue, Tech Support Rockstar; JoAnn, Blood Pressure Nurse Extraordinaire; and Tom, Most Reliable Driver.
Every one of our volunteers makes a difference to our clients and our organization. Thank you!
