Kurt Johnson (left) has had plenty of wins in his National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) drag racing career, but few came as easy as his victory in the 18th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals at Kent, WA Sunday.

Johnson’s AC Delco Chevrolet Cobalt took a leisurely single pass run to capture the Pro Stock title at the meet after his opponent, Ron Krisher, totaled his car just after his semifinal victory over Jeg Coughlin.

Staged by himself in the final, Johnson made a slow victory pass in the final. His official winning time was 16 seconds at 75 mph.

"It sucks to win like that," said Johnson, who didn't bother with a burnout and basically idled down the track to the victory. “It was weird to go down the track and shut off early and just coast in quiet like that but that's the way it went down. It feels like I only did three-quarters of my job today. I didn't want to mess up the track for the guys behind us. A win is a win. I've had plenty of tough losses so I'll take this one."

Johnson was the quickest car of each elimination round Sunday. In Round 1 eliminations, Johnson’s EMP Stewart Components cooled Chevy dispatched Dave Connolly with a solid 6.689-second, 206.45 miles per hour run.

The news wasn’t as good for Kurt’s dad, Warren, as he fell to Krisher in Round 1 eliminations Sunday. The elder Johnson was 12-2 against Krisher lifetime, but Krisher’s hole shot was too much this time as both cars went through the traps at more than 205 mph at the finish with Krisher getting the win by five feet.
