Representative Barbara Jordan didn't break barriers - she shattered them. Jordan was the first Black woman in America to preside over a legislative body, but she didn't stop there. From the Texas state legislature, she went on to become a three-term US Representative and, in 1976, became the first female and first Black keynote speaker at the DNC.
