~HOLIDAY SPILL CLEANING TIPS~

As hard as we try, seasonal spills find a way into our homes!! We want to help our clients as much as we can so here are some tips for when those aggravating spills happen this season!

* Prepare the Soiled Area: Remove any large debris of food or drink spill with paper towels or a white terry cloth.

* Create Your Own Spot Treatment: Start by using warm water only. If a stronger solution is needed, mix equal amounts of white vinegar and lukewarm-warm water in a spray bottle. Apply water or solution directly to spill but do not saturate area(s). Let sit for 5-10 minutes, depending on severity.

* Agitate: The goal is to work the spot treatment deep into the fibers using a soft-bristled brush. Avoid the "back and forth" scrubbing motion by using circular motions to agitate the spot treatment into the carpet, allowing it to reach the bottom of the fibers. Let sit for about 5 minutes before proceeding to the "rinse" stage.

* Rinse: Rinse the area with a warm wet cloth; we want to “lift” the stain by compression. Avoid the "back and forth" scrubbing motion here. This step is the key to removing the stain(s) so repeat as much as needed until the stain is removed. Avoid saturating the area too much.

* Dry: Use the "fold & compression” technique with a new cloth, and dry the area as best as possible. Place any air movers or box fans over the area to complete the drying process. Allow up to 6-8 hours to dry.
