Conti riders had a great start to the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association, Inc. (CMRA) race season at MSR Houston last weekend. Competition was fierce with four teams running Continental tires in the endurance and a multitude of sprint racers.
In endurance, YN Continental, Happy Schnauzer Racing Continental, Zero Fox, and 4 Randoms competed well with tires that still look fresh after practice sessions and the lengthy race. Tires for all the teams look like they could do another full endurance race. YN Continental secured a spot on the podium, finishing 3rd overall and 3rd in class and while setting the second fastest lap of the race without a tire change. Both 4 Randoms and Zero Fox finished 5th in their respective classes. HSR Continental had a few mechanical issues but the team hunkered down, fixed the bike twice, and got back on the track to crank out some laps. Note to team, loctite … loctite … loctite.
In sprints across the weekend, Kyle Mallett of Relentless Racing took home 4 first place finishes in DSS, LWT, F2, and DSB novice classes. Will anyone dethrone the king of contingency tires? Clayton Schutz did well overall coming out of racing retirement, getting top step in the F40 LW race and several near podiums. Jens Jorritsma took a 3rd place finish in DSB novice (How many people were in the race isn’t important).

HAPPY SCHNAUZER RECAP
It was a great few days of racing with (CMRA) at MotorSport Ranch this past weekend and thankfully the rain stayed away. Continental racers did well across the board in sprint and endurance. Here are some highlights:
In endurance, Relentless Racing, United Nations, and Zero Fox finished 4th, 14th, and 15th respectively. At one point, Relentless led overall. setting the 3rd fast lap time.
Conti sprint racers did well in their respective classes with some close battles for podium positions.
- James ‘Bubba’ Hanson took top spot in 300SS EX with JoJo Anaya 0.143 behind him.
- 300SB EX was another tight finish. Marco Soto secured the second step on the podium with Bubba Hanson in 3rd 0.381 seconds later.
- In 500GP EX, Brandon Clark took second 0.149 seconds behind the race leader.
- 500SS EX, 3rd step of the podium was snagged by Dylan Deutschlander, Brandon Clark followed up closely in 4th.
- Both 500SB expert and novice had a rider on the 3rd position of the podium, Brandon Clark and Hai Yee Chen respectively.
- Brandon Clark had another podium finish in DSS EX and Bubba Hanson came in 5th, 0.059 behind 4th.
- In DSS NV, Hai Yee Chen nearly snagged a podium finish but came up short by 0.781 seconds. I came in 5th so no sense in mentioning that, hah.
- Samuel Sandoval had a great showing on his Triumph Daytona 675, with a 1st place finish in HWT NV, 3rd in CSS NV, and 6th in ASS NV playing with the big bikes!
Some shots of the endurance bikes with tires still looking great after 6 hours!
